It's only been a week since Crimson Vow went live in Pioneer, but already we've had results pouring in from a variety of sources: A Pioneer Showcase, a 103 person paper event in Japan, and dozens of Pioneer leagues on MTGO. What are we to make of all this data? With so much information to go through The First Pioneers thought it best to have somebody who's been on the frontlines make odds and ends of it all.
Martin Porter, aka Harry13SCO, joins us from his MTGO grinding and Twitch streaming to talk about the current metagame as well as where he thinks it's going. We also touch on possible bans in the Pioneer format and Martin gives us a sweet deck tech on his newest UB control deck that carried him all the way to a top 4 finish in last weekend's online Pro Tour Qualifier! Winged Portent portent is a blue instant that does what blue loves the most; draw cards. But there's a catch, you have to have creatures in play to do so. Which blue decks don't already have a way to get more cards and how could you use drawing a lot of cards to your advantage? With a number of mid-level paper Pioneer events happening in October all around Japan, it seems like there finally might be a proper paper metagame for the format. But will this paper metagame end up just being a reflection of the online one, or will it come into its own by the time Hareruya holds the largest paper Pioneer event of the year at the end of the month?
With a few mid level events already concluded, there are a handful of top 8 paper results to look at from Japan. The First Pioneers bring on ClaudiohMTG to talk about the current MTGO metagame, the results of these paper events, and also to discuss the possible differences between online and paper tournaments in Pioneer.

No card has had a bigger effect on Pioneer than Bring to Light. It is the premier tutor effect in the format, but is it the only one worth playing? Innistrad Midnight Hunt dropped a few weeks back and has already started to "claw" its way into the Pioneer metagame. What better way to look for clues in this new meta than to have on our re-occurring guest and honorary co-host EkerossMTG to talk about how the format transitioned from the Forgotten Realms metagame to the new one. Ekeross gives us an in depth look at the MTGO metagame from the Mana Traders Pioneer league that happened in September and talked about his deck choices, as well as how new cards from Midnight Hunt found their way into many people's decks after the swiss portion of the tournament.
